Ever heard of the Red Hat Society? Imagine entering a
room filled with ladies of all ages wearing red and pink hats lavished in purple flowers and boas. Women that have decided
to come together to enjoy snacks, games, beverages, and the company of friends.
The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women that
wanted to meet middle age with verve and humor. The Red Hat Society is a social
organization where there is fun before and after the age of fifty. There is only one stipulation. Women that are under the
age of fifty aren’t allowed to wear the society’s revered red hat. They have to wear a pink hat.
Exceptional Adventures wanted to honor this great idea
by starting a chapter for adults with disabilities. In March of 2006, a chapter was started and was named the “Red Hat
Ladies”. After receiving a great deal of interest, the Red Hat Ladies held their first meeting on Sunday, July 1st.
Each woman arrived wearing their hat, which was decorated
to match their individual personality. After going over the Red hat history, members received their membership award and a
purple Red Hat t-shirt. The event went over wonderfully and the Red Hat Ladies have had many functions since the start.
